Cheryl Tarnofsky, LMFT — our founder — started her career in fashion but wanted to make more of an impact. She became a licensed art therapist and spent years working in non-profits before deciding to build a practice that reflected what she believed therapy should actually look like — accessible, human, and grounded in real connection.

That's how Resilient Heart Therapy started. What began as a solo practice grew into a team of 10 clinicians who all share the same belief: the therapeutic relationship is just as important as the modalities we use. We're not just trained professionals — we're real people who understand what it's like to struggle, grow, and heal.

Today, we serve clients across all of California through secure video sessions. Every therapist on our team is carefully selected, clinically supervised, and trained in evidence-based approaches including EMDR, DBT, IFS, EFT, somatic therapy, and art therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know starting therapy comes with a lot of questions. Here are the ones we hear most often.

Resilient Heart Therapy is 100% online, meaning we don't have a physical office that you will be coming to for sessions. All you need is a quiet, safe space with reliable internet.

We typically see clients Monday through Friday, between 8am and 7pm. Individual therapist schedules may vary.

Sessions are approximately 50-55 minutes for individuals. For couples, session times can be longer.

If you have insurance, you'll just pay your copay. Out-of-pocket rates: Cheryl charges $200 per 50-minute individual session. Pre-licensed therapists charge $175 per individual session or $190 per 60-minute couples session.

All therapists are in-network with Cigna, Aetna, and United Healthcare.

Private pay avoids having a mental health diagnosis on your insurance records and bypasses session limits that insurance may impose.

If you are unable to make it to a scheduled session, please let your therapist know by text or email at least 48 hours beforehand. Cancellations outside the 48-hour window incur the full session fee. A credit card is required on file.

During our first session, there will be a bunch of questions to get to know you better. We'll discuss your goals and priorities for therapy.

Our practice works with a variety of folks who come in with a variety of different challenges. We primarily work with adults and teens, couples and families.

Yes. Kimberly Ramirez and Patty Perez are both bilingual and offer therapy sessions in Spanish. Let us know when you reach out and we'll match you accordingly.

Our team uses DBT, EMDR, EFT, IFS, mindfulness-based strategies, and somatic therapy — with an emphasis on listening and presence.

Duration varies individually. We will work until you've reached your goals, with ongoing progress review along the way.

We often suggest that you meet with your therapist one time a week. Consistency in weekly sessions leads to better and faster outcomes. Frequency is adjustable based on progress and needs.
