100% virtual therapy from the comfort of your own home. In-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna & Optum. We're far from "blank-slate" therapists — we're real humans, just like you.
"Therapy was not something I really enjoyed before meeting and working with Cheryl. When I found myself going through some stressful times, I realized I needed to seek out help. Cheryl has taught me invaluable coping skills that I did not know I needed. The way she explains things makes sense and you really get the feeling that she is not judging you at all. Love her!"
"I have never in my life found a therapist I truly felt comfortable with and excited to meet with again. I had such a positive first call with Mia and am so excited to continue this journey with her. If you are new to therapy, or worried you may never find a good fit — book with Mia!"
"I've worked with many therapists in the past, and I feel like Cheryl is one of the most caring and compassionate people I've worked with. She really gets to know her clients and makes you feel supported. Learning DBT from her has transformed many areas of my life and I can't thank her enough."
"For my first session with Mia, they were so compassionate and showed that they were attentively listening to what I had to say. They had a lot of helpful insight to share in ways that related to me. They are also very accommodating to scheduling. 100% would recommend booking with Mia."
"Douglas has excellent bedside manner. He explained the whole process of initiation and gave me some tips already looking forward to the next session. He is a great listener and puts himself in your shoes. So far, for my first session, it is a 10/10."
"I really enjoyed talking to Douglas. I booked another session the following week. The hour went by super fast, it was a very easy and natural conversation for me. I hadn't been in any therapy in over 10 years."
"Mia is a super kind and compassionate healer, who is fantastic at lending a warm, tender ear and offering sage suggestions. I would not hesitate to recommend Mia to anyone going through a challenging time in their life."
"I haven't felt so safe in therapy in a long time. I love Mia's gentle energy and she's provided a few coping skills that I'll be using this next week before we meet again."

To an outsider, your life might look pretty good — but deep down you feel dissatisfied, disconnected, and unlovable. You give your all to others, yet your own tank feels empty. You stay really busy (too busy!) to avoid feeling anything unpleasant and to distract from the self-doubting voices in your head.
We've worked with many folks who have struggled like you, and we continue to be amazed by how people can change their lives with the right guide, skills, consistency, and patience.
Constant worry. Tension. Racing heart. There's just something that feels off — you don't know why you constantly feel this tightness in your chest. It's possible you've tried to soothe it, suppress it, but it just doesn't seem to leave you alone. We get it. We're humans who struggle with anxiety too.
Some things get stuck in the body. Childhood trauma, PTSD, painful memories that still run the show. We use EMDR and somatic therapy to help your brain process what it couldn't finish on its own. You don't have to relive everything to heal from it.
Feeling disconnected from your partner? Like you're roommates instead of a couple? We use Emotionally Focused Therapy to help you get back to each other. It's not about who's right.
When everything feels heavy and you've lost interest in the things you used to enjoy. Getting through the day feels like swimming against the current. We help you understand the patterns keeping you stuck so you can start feeling like yourself again.
Mood swings, impulsivity, intense emotions that feel out of control. DBT skills give you practical tools to feel steady, even in hard moments.
Feeling not good enough, people-pleasing, struggling with who you are. When we get to meet the ones on the inside with love, care, and curiosity, we open up a whole new world.

We tend to be more relational in our work than other therapists out there. We believe the therapeutic relationship is just as valuable as the modalities and interventions.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
Helps process trauma and distressing memories through guided eye movements, reducing their emotional charge so they no longer control you.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Builds skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness — practical tools you can use every single day.
Internal Family Systems
Explores the different parts of your inner experience with curiosity and compassion, leading to deep self-understanding and healing.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
Strengthens the bond between partners by identifying and reshaping the emotional patterns that drive disconnection and conflict.
Body-Based Approach
Works with your body's stress responses to release tension and process experiences stored physically — not just mentally.
Creative Expression
Uses creative expression as a path to healing — no artistic skill needed. A powerful way to access what words alone can't reach.
Cheryl Tarnofsky, LMFT — our founder — started her career in fashion but wanted to make more of an impact. She became a licensed art therapist and spent years working in non-profits before deciding to build a practice that reflected what she believed therapy should actually look like — accessible, human, and grounded in real connection.
That's how Resilient Heart Therapy started. What began as a solo practice grew into a team of 10 clinicians who all share the same belief: the therapeutic relationship is just as important as the modalities we use. We're not just trained professionals — we're real people who understand what it's like to struggle, grow, and heal.
Today, we serve clients across all of California through secure video sessions. Every therapist on our team is carefully selected, clinically supervised, and trained in evidence-based approaches including EMDR, DBT, IFS, EFT, somatic therapy, and art therapy.
We've helped hundreds of people move from stuck to thriving. Your journey can start with a single text.
That's what the free consultation is for. Text us — no sales pitch, just a real conversation about what you need and how we can help. All texts are answered within 1 business day.
Ask Us Anything — We'll Text BackWe know starting therapy comes with a lot of questions. Here are the ones we hear most often.
Resilient Heart Therapy is 100% online, meaning we don't have a physical office that you will be coming to for sessions. All you need is a quiet, safe space with reliable internet.
We typically see clients Monday through Friday, between 8am and 7pm. Individual therapist schedules may vary.
Sessions are approximately 50-55 minutes for individuals. For couples, session times can be longer.
If you have insurance, you'll just pay your copay. Out-of-pocket rates: Cheryl charges $200 per 50-minute individual session. Pre-licensed therapists charge $175 per individual session or $190 per 60-minute couples session.
All therapists are in-network with Cigna, Aetna, and United Healthcare.
Text us at (323) 641-4535, or book directly through Zocdoc. We'll get back to you as soon as possible to set up your first session.
Private pay avoids having a mental health diagnosis on your insurance records and bypasses session limits that insurance may impose.
If you are unable to make it to a scheduled session, please let your therapist know by text or email at least 48 hours beforehand. Cancellations outside the 48-hour window incur the full session fee. A credit card is required on file.
During our first session, there will be a bunch of questions to get to know you better. We'll discuss your goals and priorities for therapy.
Our practice works with a variety of folks who come in with a variety of different challenges. We primarily work with adults and teens, couples and families.
Yes. Kimberly Ramirez and Patty Perez are both bilingual and offer therapy sessions in Spanish. Let us know when you reach out and we'll match you accordingly.
Our team uses DBT, EMDR, EFT, IFS, mindfulness-based strategies, and somatic therapy — with an emphasis on listening and presence.
Duration varies individually. We will work until you've reached your goals, with ongoing progress review along the way.
We often suggest that you meet with your therapist one time a week. Consistency in weekly sessions leads to better and faster outcomes. Frequency is adjustable based on progress and needs.
You've been thinking about therapy. You're here because something told you it's time. The good news: your insurance likely covers most or all of the cost. We're in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Optum. One text — that's all it takes.
