Welcome to Resilient Heart Therapy

We've worked with many people who have struggled like you, and we continue to be amazed by how people can change their lives with the right guide, skills, consistency, and patience. We're far from 'blank-slate' therapists, we are humans just like you. We tend to be more relational in our work than other therapists out there as we believe that the therapeutic relationship is just as valuable as the modalities and interventions.

It's Time to Stop Treading Water

Imagine you're in the middle of a swimming pool, barely staying afloat, surrounded by water that is weighing you down. Your therapist is standing directly above the pool on the diving board, able to get a full view of what's going on. The idea is for your therapist to help lift you onto the diving board so that you too can see your issues from an observed perspective.

Our goal is simple — to get you back on track and feeling better quickly. With a therapist, you don't have to do it all on your own. We use a combination of DBT, EMDR, and somatic therapy to help you get results.

Our Approach

We use integrative approaches to help you get to where you want to be in your life.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR focuses on altering the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors associated with distressing experiences, rather than extensively discussing them. By activating your brain's natural healing process, EMDR promotes lasting transformation.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT helps by providing real life skills to manage the overwhelming emotions that come with being a human being. You will learn skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

IFS

Internal Family Systems

IFS helps you understand and heal the different parts of yourself with compassion and curiosity, leading to deep self-understanding and integration.

EFT

Emotionally Focused Therapy

Couples therapy will walk you through how to tend to your relationship. Together, we will break down the relationship problems and goals so you can create the relationship you want to be in.

Somatic Therapy

Body-Based Approach

Somatic therapy acknowledges that traumatic experiences can be stored not only in our thoughts and emotions but also in our physical bodies. Techniques like breathing exercises, grounding, and gentle movement help you reconnect with your body and release tension.

Art Therapy

Creative Expression

Sometimes it's hard to communicate what you feel with words alone. Art therapy enables both the client and therapist to gain a different perspective. The best part is, you don't need any prior experience with art.

Cheryl Tarnofsky, LMFT

Founded by Cheryl Tarnofsky, LMFT

Cheryl started Resilient Heart Therapy with a simple belief: quality mental health care should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford to pay out of pocket.

Today, our team of clinicians serves clients across California through secure telehealth. We're in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Optum — because finances should never be a barrier to getting help.

Every therapist on our team is carefully selected, clinically supervised, and trained in evidence-based approaches including EMDR, DBT, IFS, EFT, somatic therapy, and art therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?

Resilient Heart Therapy is 100% online, meaning we don't have a physical office. It's important for you to have a quiet space where you can feel safe and comfortable speaking, that also has a good enough internet connection.

What are your hours?

We typically see clients Monday through Friday, between 8am and 7pm. Hours vary by each clinician.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are approximately 50-55 minutes for individuals. For couples, session times can be longer.

Do you take insurance?

All therapists are in-network with Cigna, Aetna, and United Healthcare. If you do not have one of these carriers, you can contact your insurance provider and ask if they will reimburse you for an out-of-network provider. If so, we can provide you with a superbill that you then send to your insurance company to receive reimbursement.

How much do you charge?

Cheryl: $200 per 50-minute session for individuals. Pre-licensed therapists: $175 per 50-minute session for individuals, $190 per 60-minute couples therapy session.

How do I set up an initial appointment?

Hit any of the contact buttons on the site, or call/text us at (323) 641-4535. We'll do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

What can I expect in a first session?

During our first session, there will be a bunch of questions to get to know you better. We'll start talking about treatment goals and get to know what's most important to you so that therapy can be successful.

What is your approach?

We love getting to know our clients deeply. We find it so important to listen and be present to what you're saying in the moment so that we can work through it together. Our team is well-versed in modalities such as DBT, EMDR, EFT, IFS, mindfulness-based strategies and somatic therapy.

How long will therapy take?

Everyone is different and has different needs. We will work until you've reached your goals. We will continually review your progress and check in to see if what we're doing together is working.

How often will we need to have a session?

We often suggest that you meet with your therapist once a week. Consistency in weekly sessions leads to better and faster outcomes. You can always discuss meeting every other week if your symptoms allow.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please let your therapist know at least 48 hours beforehand if you need to cancel. Cancellations outside of the 48-hour window will be charged the full fee. There can be flexibility if you are able to reschedule within the same week.

Your Insurance Covers This. Let's Get Started.
